What Happens When You Contact Me
People often wonder what happens when they contact a Social Security Disability (SSD) lawyer for help with an initial claim or appealing a denied claim.
I am SSD and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) lawyer Timothy R. White, and for more than 18 years, I have been helping adults and children in the Chicago area obtain the disability benefits they need and deserve. Here is a general outline of what you can expect when you contact my office for a free consultation.
The Initial Meeting
When you call or come to my office for a free consultation, I start out by asking basic questions. I do this to get an understanding of your specific situation.
The questions may include:
- Have you applied for disability benefits yet?
- If so, was your application accepted or denied?
- Is the disability physical or mental?
- Are you seeing a doctor?
- What kinds of medical tests have been done?
- Have you received any treatment or been prescribed any medications?
For adults, I ask if they are working at all. If not, then I ask when they last worked.
For children, I ask whether the child has been hospitalized or treated in an emergency department. Is the child receiving treatment for a mental condition or disability? If so, have there been any issues at school, such as suspension? Has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) been created?
All of this information helps me establish the foundation for an effective claim for benefits.
Helping You Build A Strong Claim
When applying for SSD or SSI benefits, it is important to provide the Social Security Administration with everything it needs to make a favorable decision. One of the most common mistakes is not providing all of the necessary medical and work-related evidence.
I can help you gather these materials and present them in a persuasive way that shows the extent of the disability and its effect on your life.
