An Experienced Cook County Disability Claim Attorney

Chicago Supplemental Security Income Lawyer

An Illinois SSI Lawyer Dedicated To Serving You

Perhaps you already know that in order to qualify for many Social Security benefits, such as Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, you need to have paid years of taxes into the system. You may not know, however, that even if you have never paid in a penny, you may still be eligible to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

I am Chicago Supplemental Security Income attorney Timothy White, and my law firm is devoted to helping both adults and children with a wide range of Social Security benefits matters, including filing for SSI. As a Chicago SSI lawyer with more than 18 years of experience in this area of law, I have the legal knowledge and skill to guide you through the process and help you pursue the best results possible.

Understanding Supplemental Security Income

The process that the Social Security Administration (SSA) uses for determining SSI eligibility is much the same as that for SSDI. It will first consider your assets and income level. Excluding a house and one car, a single person usually needs to have less than $2,000 in assets to qualify for SSI.

If you meet the income restrictions, the SSA will then seek to determine if you have a disabling disease, mental impairment or other medical condition that meets the statutory definition of a disability. At my Chicago law firm, I can explain exactly what the SSA will be looking for in your claim, and I can help you fill out the application for the best chance of success.

If you are already receiving SSI and your income or assets change — either through winning money, inheriting property or other means — be sure to tell your attorney right away. Earning too much may disqualify you from SSI benefits.
